Federal cabinet approves Labour Policy 2010, minimum wage would be RS 7000

Addressing the media on account of the International Labour Day on Saturday, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani announced the salient features of the new Labour Policy 2010. The new policy was approved by the federal cabinet on Saturday. The minimum wages for the labourer has been raised from Rs 6000 to Rs 7000 in a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. The meeting held Convention Center Islamabad, reviewed the Labour Policy hammered out by the Ministry of Labour and Manpower. The new Labour Policy will be put in force from June 1. Under new policy, the industrial labourers will be entitled to further privileges and the forced labour would be put to an end. Under the policy, the minors aged 14 to 18 would not be allowed to work in uncongenial and improper atmosphere. The number of women at any company would be specified under ILO Charter. The new policy also stipulates the rules and regulations relating links between employers and employees.
