Islamabad - As many as 279 medical and dental graduates of Islamabad Medical and Dental College (IM&DC) received their degrees at the second convocation held here at Jinnah Convention Centre yesterday.
Out of 279 graduates, 186 were MBBS graduates of IM&DC’s sessions 2010-11 and 93 were graduates in BDS 2011-12 sessions. The graduates who received gold medals include: Dr Maria Rauf, Dr Mehwish Pasha, Umair Naeem, Waheed Ghaffar Bari, Hafiz M Bilal Munawar, Dr Zarbab Bhati, Noukhez Fatima, Dr Yasna Najmi, Dr Sadia Zafar, Dr Summan Ali, Huma Arooj, Sunya Qamar, Faryal Irfan Abbasi, Dr Raeesa Khan, Kiran Ejaz, Muska Ejaz, Miraat Ansar, Nawaal Ejaz, and Dr Jawera Awan.
Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary distributed degrees amongst the MBBS and BDS graduates. He congratulated the students, their parents, faculty members and college management for the prestigious success and said it is a good opportunity for the youth to serve the humanity, nation and country, particularly the downtrodden people.
Tariq Fazal said the government is fully aware of the problems in health sector and working to provide all kinds of better healthcare facilities to masses. Over population with less resources is the real challenge for the government to meet the basic needs of the people, he said.
“At present, our health system is facing great challenge. The government understands and is deliberate in finding sustainable solutions for these challenges like polio, hepatitis, antimicrobial resistance, MDR-TB, non- communicable diseases, vaccine preparation etc,” he said.
Chairman IM&DC Dr Ghulam Akbar Khan Niazi advised the students to make every effort to provide best care to the patients, enhance their knowledge with latest discoveries and remember that there is no shortcut to experience.
Briefing about the college, he said the construction of 500-bed teaching hospital within the parameter of the college, which was started about two years back, has been completed and it will start functioning soon and will surely provide healthcare facilities to the surrounding population of Bhara Kahu at their doorstep.
The college is taking all measures and steps to abreast its students with high quality education at par with other reputed medical institution of the country and abroad, he said. The construction of an on-campus girls’ hostel and establishment of a nursing school are a few projects to be embarked upon soon, he said.
Rector Bahria University Vice Admiral (Retd) Tanveer Faiz HI (M), Principle IM&DC Prof Dr Khalid Hassan and Principle Dental Section Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Khurram also addressed the participants.
