Islamabad - The National Book Foundation (NBF) has almost completed the prime task of supply of textbooks to the students of government schools in Islamabad Capital Territory.
The new academic session started last month but all the students were not delivered textbooks. The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is supposed to provide free textbooks to students of up to class 10 but almost every year the books are delivered after months due to procedural delays.
Minister of State for the Capital Administration and Development Division (CA&DD) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry taking notice of the non-provision of textbooks had called a meeting with officials of FDE and NBF at the ministry directing the officials to address this issue on urgent basis.
Yesterday, the NBF in a statement maintained that it has supplied textbooks to the schools of FDE for academic session 2016-17.
Managing Director NBF, Prof Dr Inamul Haq Javeid personally took keen interest in developing, printing and supplying process of textbooks for students of ICT.
The services of textbook expert Prof Dr Attash Durrani were hired for completion of this important task who tried his level best to present textbooks up to the international level and optimal standardisation, it said.
In this year, textbooks survey for class I to class VIII was conducted to get feedback of students and teachers from four schools. The report of this survey has been incorporated in inner side of each relevant subject textbook first time in order to make improvement for next academic year in the light of recommendations of survey report. This step taken by NBF has been appreciated by large number of students, teachers and parents.
The FDE has set up nine resource supply centres, five in urban and four in rural areas schools. The NBF established its main supply centre in G-8/4 Islamabad, from where all textbooks delivered to specify FDE resource centres according to prescribed demand, it said.
In spite of this fact that Federal Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (FBISE), Islamabad issued delayed prescription order of textbooks from IX to XII, NBF has made up its mind to provide all textbooks to the students before the starting of their classes. With due concentration, hardworking of staff and taking special personal interest of the managing director, the NBF succeeded of printing of high quality of textbooks by using good paper material and supplied these to the students in the start of Academic Session 2016-17.
