Vaccination, awareness vital to fight rabies: VC

Islamabad - Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Tuesday observed the World Rabies Day based on the theme “Let’s Work Together to Eliminate Rabies” by arranging a seminar and an awareness walk, with an aim to create awareness among people about human and animal rabies and to emphasise on its prevention techniques.
The day began with an anti-rabies awareness walk led by PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad. It was organised by the department of clinical sciences of faculty of veterinary and animal sciences (FV&AS), which aimed to sensitise the public about the disease and its prevention methods.  A large number of teachers and students participated in the walk.
In his address, Prof Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad said that the deaths from rabies could be reduced to zero by conducting vaccination programmes, creating awareness regarding the disease among public and using effective human vaccines available. He further stated that rabies was a fatal disease and there was a dire need of launching a comprehensive campaign to educate general public in this regard. He appreciated the efforts made by the faculty to organise this public awareness walk against rabies.
He ensured that PMAS-AAUR would continue its efforts to uplift the society through education. The VC also said that university would extend the cooperation of its experts to common people for vaccination to eradicate and control of rabies throughout Pakistan in general and Potohar region in particular.
