DHO directed to apprise body about missing facilities

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Steering Committee of Islamabad Development Package on Monday in a meeting reviewed progress on different uplift schemes in rural areas of the Capital. The meeting held under the Chairmanship of Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Senator Dr. Babar Awan discussed at length the schemes related to construction of rural roads and the rehabilitation of old roads, pavements of streets, provision of water supply schemes and load shedding problems. Besides others, the meeting was attended by Leader of the House in Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and Minister for Education Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani. The meeting underlined the need for taking steps on priority basis for up-grading existing school buildings in the rural areas, provision of better water and electricity facilities and construction of boundary walls of some school buildings. The officials from various departments including district health office ICT, Local Government and Rural Development Department ICT and Federal Directorate of Education and CDA apprised the meeting about the progress on different uplift projects. Senator Dr. Babar Awan observed that health facilities for the citizens of Islamabad rural were not satisfactory. He asked the health department to take necessary steps for improving situation in various Basic Health Units (BHUs). He directed District Health Officer to visit each BHU in the rural areas and apprise the Committee about missing facilities in its next meeting to be held on September, 12. He also directed the administration of Islamabad rural to levy taxes, which could be utilized for the development of the area. The panel also noted that the imputation fee on revenue, levied elsewhere in the country did not exist in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). It directed ICT administration to strategize it within one week. It was decided that the revenue generated in this way would be spent on the development of rural area. The panel stressed that in recruitment in all the departments of Federal Government, rules laid down in Service Law be adhered in letter and spirit. The panel also observed with concern that the housing societies were not allocating any place for graveyards and directed CDA to ensure that sufficient space is allocated for the purpose. It was also decided that Committee would meet after each 15 days to review progress on development projects.
