'Molka resolved stream of interfaith creativity'

ISLAMABAD: Opening of Retrospective Exhibition of Anna Molka and Sheikh Ahmed was held here on Sunday at the National Art Gallery titled "Dynamic Duo". "This commemorates the master artists who were truly the pioneers of the Pakistan visual arts scene", said Tahira Ayyaz, Secretary Culture. Sherry Rehman, Federal Minister for Information and Culture was the chief guest who inaugurated the exhibition. In her address, she said that Anna Molka had a multi-faceted, multinational personality, who resolved the stream of interfaith creativity as a hallmark of her artistic personality. "Together with her husband, Anna Molka Ahmad was a leading pioneer in establishing the visual arts on the eve of our independence," Ms Rehman observed. "She was the moving spirit behind the fine arts and was awarded the prestigious Tamgha-I-Imtiaz in acknowledgement of her lifelong services to Pakistan in the visual arts", the minister further observed. PNCA exhibited 105 art works of Ms Anna Molka Ahmad and 55 of Sheikh Ahmad. Tahira Ayyaz, Secretary Culture and daughter of great artist Sheikh Ahmad and Anna Molka, praised her parents and their affections with her. PNCA has held and sponsored more than 25 cultural programs of both the visual and performing arts, she said. These included exhibitions, concerts and programmes pertaining to theatre, film, painting, sculpture, music and crafts, both from Pakistan and abroad, said Ms Ayyaz. Minster for Culture Sherry Rehman said that her government's commitment to the cultural progress of the country was high on its agenda and more resources would be allocated to disseminate the rich cultural heritage of Pakistan nationally and globally.  Ms Rehman may be the first Minister for Culture in the history of Pakistan who has authored a book pertaining to culture before her joining as Federal Minister, Tahira Ayyaz said.
