32 vehicles lifted from capital in April

islamabad - The policing level of the Islamabad Capital Territory’s (ICT) law-enforcers can be gauged from the fact that the car thieves drove away with at least 32 vehicles from the federal capital limits in the month of April only, reveal the statistics.

In some cases, the car thieves struck more than once in a day in the limits of a particular police station with the police high-ups are apparently not taking the crime seriously. The vehicle-owners lose millions of rupees every month at the hands of the car-lifters. The limits of Industrial Area police station remained atop the list of the areas the most favourite for the vehicle-lifters from where 6 vehicles were stolen respectively on April 5 (bike), April 6 (bike), April 15 (car), April 20 (car), April 7 (car) and April 28 (car), reveal the April data on vehicle-lifting. On April 24, a car and a bike were stolen from the limits of Margalla police station.

Three vehicles were lifted from the limits of Secretariat police station during the month; April 16, a bike, April 15, a bike, and April 20, a bike. Two vehicles were lifted from the limits of Kohsar police station. On April 28, a bike was stolen from the limits of Tarnol police station. Three bikes were stolen from the limits of Koral police station. A car was stolen on April 28 from the limits of Golra police station. Two vehicles were stolen from the limits of Ramana on April 23 and April 24 respectively. Two cars were stolen from the limits of Khanna police station during the month. A car and a bike were lifted from the limits of Sihala police station. Two bikes were stolen from the limits of Aabpara and Shehzad Town police stations each.

The thieves lifted a bike on April 7 from the limits of Sabzi Mandi police station. A bike was lifted from the limits of Bani Gala and Bhara Kahu police stations each while one car was stolen from the limits of Karachi Company police station during the aforesaid period. Furthermore, three bikes were lifted from the limits of Secretariat police station during the month. Thieves struck on April 15, 16 and April 20 to lift the motorbikes. Two incidents of vehicle lifting were registered on April 10 and April 12 respectively in the limits of Kohsar police station.

The crime is not dying although the ICT police high-ups have claimed decrease in the incidents of car lifting in the federal capital. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Islamabad, 230 incidents of car lifting were reported in first eight months of the year 2015 as compared to 500 car theft incidents during the same period of the last year. There are 164 entrance and exit points of the federal capital and deployment of police at every point is getting difficult for the police high-ups of which the thieves are getting benefit.

Motor vehicle theft is a common form of property crime, often perpetrated by hardcore criminals. Motor vehicle thefts are committed for their auto parts or with intent of re-selling them in the black market.

Spokesman to the ICT police Tahir Khan, when contacted, said that the new IG is making strategy to curb the crime. “We are planning a strategy to curb vehicle theft. An IT-based programme is being evolved to check vehicle theft,” he added.

Meanwhile, SSP Operations of Islamabad, Sajid Kiani has directed all the police officers to ensure strict security against criminal elements in their respective jurisdictions to ensure safety of the residents.
