'Lawyers movement to continue till achieving goals'

RAWALPINDI -To sensitize people regarding their protest convention on November 3 marking it a Black Day due to the imposition of emergency last year by former president Pervez Musharraf, legal fraternity brought out a car rally on the different roads of the city here on Saturday. In some 100 cars, lawyers started their rally from district courts and went to old Raja Bazaar from where they proceeded towards commercial market via Saidpur Road. From Commercial market the protesting lawyers went towards Faizabad and came back to district courts via Murree Road. They were carrying black flags, banners and placards with the slogans about the restoration of deposed judges and independence of judiciary. The lawyers chanted slogans against the present government for backing out from the promises about the reinstatement of the deposed judges. Before leaving for car rally,  the representatives of District Bar Association (DBA) and Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Rawalpindi in their respective speeches said that all arrangements had been made for the address of the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on November 3 and made it clear that  they would not sit idle until the restoration of all deposed judges. President LHCBA Sardar Asmatullah and president DBA Sardar Tariq Masood along with other representatives told media persons in the bar hall that they had gained new strength after the victory of Ali Ahmed Kurd in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections and their 20 months long struggle would only end with restoration of Iftikhar Chaudhry to the position of prior to November 3 2007. The leaders of Rawalpindi lawyers said the November 3 convention and the subsequent rally towards the Constitutional Avenue would prove all criticism against them that their struggle had been dented with the change of the government. The lawyers said they were not fighting for any specific personality but Iftikhar Chaudhry had become an icon of resistance in fight against dictators and adventurers after he refused to bow down to the pressure of General Pervez Musharraf on March 9 2007. The lawyers said they had advised their clients not to visit courts on November 3 as only lawyers would be allowed to enter the parking area of the courts where deposed CJ would address the lawyers. They maintained that all security arrangements had been made for the convention. The lawyers further said all segments of the society were invited to their rally towards the federal capital to press the government honour its pledges and hoped a large number of people would come out on November 3.
