Islamabad - A writ petition seeking court’s directions for the registration of a murder case against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf for permitting America to carry out drone attacks in tribal areas of Pakistan was moved in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday.
A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui will hear the petition on Thursday (today). The petitioner Mian Zahid Qureshi filed the petition for registration of murder case against Musharraf in respect of the killing of the innocent citizens who had become victim of drone strikes in tribal areas of the country. Mian Zahid moved the court through his counsel Mian Ahmad Khan Advocate and cited SSP Islamabad and station house officer (SHO) Secretariat as respondents. He informed the court that Musharraf had signed a written agreement with the US government and allowed the latter to conduct drone attacks in tribal areas wherein hundreds of the citizens were martyred.
The petitioner maintained that hundreds of Pakistanis were martyred and hundreds of others were injured in 379 drone attacks during the period from 2004 to 2013.
Mian Zahid said that the injured people are living the life of disabled persons and facing immense mental torture.
The petitioner argued that former president violated constitution of Pakistan by signing the agreement while protection of life and property of the citizens is responsibility of the government. Therefore, he prayed the court to issue directions to SHO for registration of the case against Musharraf for allowing the USA to carry out drone strikes in the tribal areas and killing the innocent Pakistanis.
