On-strike AGPR releases pay, pensions

ISLAMABAD – Despite being on strike, the Accountant General of Pakistan Revenue (AGPR) has released pay and pensions of the federal government employees, keeping in view the sanctity of the holy month of Ramazan.
“The Supreme Council of AGPR Joint Action Committee has decided to release the pay and pension considering the sanctity of the holy month,” said Khushhal Khan, Chairman of the Supreme Council while addressing a press conference here on Thursday.
However, he said that except pay and pensions, no other funds including utility, fuel and contingent bills, would be released.
Besides, Khan added, the AGPR has also blocked the releases of Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP),PWP-I and PWP-II.
“The development funds of members of National Assembly and Senate are also not being released by the AGPR”, Khushhal Khan added.
He said due to the ongoing strike, the government employees could not get their salaries on time.
The government also could not forward “Annual Appropriation and Finance Account” to the National Assembly, Senate and Public Accounts Committee on time.
He said despite these issues, the Ministry of Finance is not considering the demands of AGPR employees seriously and was reluctant to forward the file of “Audit and Allowance” to the Prime Minister.
“We have only one point agenda and that is 100 percent Audit and Account allowance on basic pay”, he said adding if the demands are not met, the AGPR employees will continue their strike and will not release the pay and pensions on Eid-ul-Fitr.
