ISLAMABAD  - The Senate will meet today (Monday) to begin its 101st session with the hope that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would also grace the upper House with his presence.
The House will meet at 4:00pm with Chairman Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari.
Since assuming the office of prime minister in June last year, Prime Minister Sharif has never attended the Senate session despite continued protests and demands from the opposition members.
During the previous sitting, Leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq had even agreed to the opposition’s viewpoint and said the Prime Minister should come to the Upper House and that he would take up the matter with PM Sharif. Haq sounded upbeat while responding to media query that the Prime Minister would come to the Senate soon.
Leader of the main opposition party in the House, PPP, and its Parliamentary Leader Mian Raza Rabbani also expressed his hope that the Prime Minister would fulfil his “constitutional obligation” and appear before the Senate as required under the Constitution after the passage of the 18th Amendment.
