Inquiry body submits report

ISLAMABAD The inquiry committee constituted by the administration of the PIMS to probe into the alleged medical negligence on part of a child specialist that caused death to a nine-month old girl has submitted the preliminary report to the authorities concerned. The incident took place in last week of January and two days ago the parents of the child register a complaint upon which the PIMS administration decided to hold an inquiry. The inquiry committee was asked to look into the matter and give recommendation to the administration on the issue. The three-member committee comprised Dr Tabish Azhar Child Specialist, Dr Nasra Bhatti and Dr Maqbool. The preliminary report based on the interview of both the father of the minor and the accused doctor was submitted to the Joint Executive Director Children Hospital PIMS. However, according to hospital sources the father of the deceased child is not cooperating with the inquiry committee as he has taken away the medical record of his daughter. When asked to provide a photocopy of the medical record for verification of the allegation levelled against the doctor, he refused to provide the medical file. According to doctors the child died of aspiration pneumonia whereas the parents of the child are accusing doctor of showing medical negligence, which is rejected by the hospital administration. The death of the child took place between the night of January 24 and 25. The report is of no use until the inquiry committee is provided medical record of the child so as to come up with some strong decision the committee must have access to the medical record. Dr Tabish Azhar head of the committee when contacted said. The father of the child was humbly requested to at least provide a copy of the medical record if he is not ready to hand over the file, but he did not agree saying it is his property.
