ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and Uganda on Monday resolved to strengthen cooperation in all fields of mutual interest.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and In-charge of Regional Cooperation of the Uganda, Asuman Kiyingi, who is currently visiting Pakistan separately called on the Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi on Monday and discussed the bilateral relations.
The adviser conveyed Pakistan’s interest in further strengthening cooperation with Uganda in all fields of mutual interest. In particular, he underscored the need to make efforts to enhance bilateral trade. Pakistan is a leading exporter of rice to Uganda.
During the official talks both sides emphasized the need for high-level political contacts and enhancing cooperation in the fields of agriculture, industry, defence and security. It was agreed to conclude at an early date, MoU on Bilateral Political Consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Pakistan and Uganda. Kiyingi was also apprised of the regional situation and Pakistan’s commitment to have good relations with neighbouring countries.
In response to the Prime Minister’s invitation to the President of Uganda extended last year, Kiyingi conveyed that his President was looking forward to his visit to Pakistan, in the second quarter of 2015.
He also held official talks with the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi.
During the meeting, Syed Tariq Fatemi reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to offer such training facilities to Uganda. For many years now, Pakistan has been offering training facilities to Uganda under its Technical Assistance Programme. So far, 21 diplomats of Uganda have received training at the Foreign Service Academy of Pakistan under this programme. During the meeting, Syed Tariq Fatemi reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to offer such training facilities to Uganda.
During his stay in Pakistan, Kiyingi will have meetings at the Board of Investment (BOI), Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Pakistan Agricultural Research Council. He would also be visiting Lahore. Mr. Kiyingi, is currently on an official visit to Pakistan. He is accompanied by Ambassador of Uganda to Pakistan, based in Tehran.
PBC observes mourning

Pakistan Bar Council will observe mourning day today (Tuesday) in memory of martyrs of Islamabad district courts attack on 3rd March 2014.
Vice-Chairman PBC Azam Nazeer Tarar in statement said that lawyers all over Pakistan will observe mourning day on 3rd March, 2015.
At least 11 people, including Additional Sessions Judge Rafaqat Awan, were killed and 29 others wounded on March 3 during a gun and bomb attack in a court in the federal capital’s courts.
The bar associations throughout the country will, therefore, hold meetings in their respective bar rooms to arrange prayers for departed souls of martyred lawyers and condemn the inaction of the government in arresting culprits and pay compensation to families of martyred lawyers despite repeated promises.
Since the government has not brought to book the culprits and has also failed to pay appropriate compensation to heirs of martyred lawyers and to those injured in the tragic incident despite lapse of one year, the Vice-Chairman PBC has called upon the government to do the needful without further loss of time.
