ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold Local Bodies elections in Sindh and Punjab as per the verdict of the Supreme Court.
Director General ECP Sher Afgan told a media briefing that the litigations are still pending pertaining to LB polls in the Federal capital and Cantonment areas. The DG ECP said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has been directed to provide complete details to the ECP regarding the local laws and delimitations of the constituencies.
He further elaborated that the ECP had asked the government for Rs 6 billion for LB elections countrywide and this amount will be enough provided if the mechanism of elections is not changed.
Speaking about LB polls in Islamabad and Cantonment areas, Sher Afgan said that legislations in this regard are still pending. Supreme Court had issued orders of conducting LB elections all over the country on November 15.
