Robbers storm female hostel; students looted

Rawalpindi - The thickly populated Rawal Division is virtually under the control of armed gangs of robbers, as gangsters stormed into a private girls hostel in New Town area and snatched cash and jewellery from ladies at gun point.
According to sources, a gang of four unknown robbers riding on two motorcycles arrived at 6:45pm at Al Jannat Girls Hostel near Holy Family Hospital (HFH) and made the girls hostage at gun point. Later, they snatched cash and jewellery and ran away. The sudden attack of armed robbers spread a wave of panic among the hostel tenants. The owner of the hostel lodged a complaint with PS New Town on behalf of victim girls, sources added.
The SHO PS New Town, despite repeated attempts, was not available for his comments on the incident. Similarly, robbers and dacoits played havoc with helpless citizens in areas of PS Banni during the last 72 hours by killing three traders and injuring two others.
The traders and other residents on Monday staged a massive protest demonstration in Banni area against surge in street crimes and failure of police to stop this.
They while holding placards and banners chanted slogans against DSP Sardar Babar Mumtaz (who is also acting SP of Rawal Division), SHOs of PS Banni and New Town.
They demanded of the RPO and CPO to take action against the police officers for their failure in controlling crimes in their areas.
DSP City Sardar Babar Mumtaz (acting SP Rawal Division) did not receive his cell phone when this scribe tried to contact him to get his version over surge in street crimes.
