ISLAMABAD - The federal government has proposed three names for the slot of Inspector General Police Sindh asking the provincial government to finalise one of them and send it back to the centre.
An official of Establishment Division informed this scribe on Thursday that the Division on the directions of authorities had written a letter to Chief Secretary Sindh and sent three names of senior PSP officers for a new head of Sindh police. The names according to officials included former IG Punjab Khan Baig, Additional IG Sindh Rafique Hassan and Additional IG Sindh Mir Zubair Mahmood. 
The federal government had removed Khan Baig a few weeks ago from the post of IGP Punjab and made OSD due to his poor performance.
Rafiq Hassan Butt, a senior police official who was promoted to grade 22 in December 2013, has been serving as managing director of the National Police Foundation. He has also served as Additional IGP Punjab.
Mir Zubair Mahmood, presently serving as Additional IGP Balochistan before that, served as CCPO Quetta as well and has repute of a good police official. Official sources in Karachi said that senior police official Fayyaz Leghari may be choice of the Sindh government. They said that Mir Zubair would be the best choice out of three given names.
Earlier, the federal government tried to convince the Sindh government to appoint Zulfikar Cheema as the provincial IGP but the authorities in Sindh categorically denied posting him at the senior most post of police in the province.
