Students join Black Day rally

ISLAMABAD - Dozens of students from different universities of the country joined lawyers and civil society on Monday to mark the one-year of imposition of emergency in the country. The students staged a protest sit-in at the Constitutional Avenue in Islamabad and observed black day to mark their protest against the former president Pervez Musharraf's steps of imposing emergency and sacking of judiciary on November 3, 2007. Representing different universities, including Arid Agriculture University, Quaid-I-Azam University, Punjab University, Government College University, Lahore, Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences & Technology (FUUAST) and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), the students marched with the rally and remained with them till the stage of the sit-in.     Nearly 150 students of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) established a camp in front of the Arid Agriculture University and accorded a warm welcome to the lawyers.  They marched with the lawyers' fraternity from Rawalpindi to Islamabad and staged a sit-in with them. Though a majority of students couldn't participate due to their exams still quite a number of students attended the rally under the banner of Student Action Committee (SAC). The student community has been remained with the lawyers since the imposition of emergency and have been protesting on every occasion the sacking of chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and suspension of the Constitution by the then army chief, General Pervez Musharraf.
