ANF seizes 1.7 tons drugs; 9 arrested

RAWALPINDI - The anti-narcotics force conducted various operations against drug mafia across the country and recovered 1.7 tons narcotics, informed ANF spokesman Sami Ullah Khan yesterday.
He added the ANF also arrested 9 smugglers including two ladies on charges of carrying or supplying narcotics and impounded three vehicles. The value of seized drugs was told to be Rs 11 billion in international market. The ANF carried out 7 different operations against the drug peddlers in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi and Quetta and seized huge quantity of drugs. The seized drugs included 1.7 ton heroin, 7.5-kg hashish and 1.4-kg opium.
The ANF Rawalpindi arrested a drug trafficker identified as Rafaqat, resident of Attock, and recovered 9-kg heroin concealed in his luggage.The ANF Rawalpindi in another operation intercepted a car bearing registration number BF-600-ICT and recovered 1.5-kg hashish and 0.200-kg opium from the car. Driver Abdul Khanan was taken into custody.
ANF Rawalpindi apprehended a drug carrier Riaz Muhammad, resident of Nowshera, along with 2-kg heroin. According to initial investigations, the accused intended to deliver the drugs to some local drug peddler in nearby area.
All cases have been registered at respective ANF police stations in different cities and further investigation is under way, the spokesman said.
