NA body unhappy with PIA substandard food

ISLAMABAD - National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat yesterday expressed displeasure and took serious notice over the substandard food and other facilities being provided by the national flag carrier — PIA.
The committee directed the PIA administration to improve the quality of food and facilities in its flights.
Member National Assembly [MNA] Praveen Masood Bhatti presided over the meeting in the absence of Chairman Committee at PIA building whereas Syed Ali Javaed Shah, Night Parveen Mir, Farhana Qamar, Marriyum Aurangzeb and officials of Civil Aviation Authority attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Marryium Aurangzeb revealed before the committee that the PIA served the leftover and substandard food among the passengers during a trip, which was returned by eighty per cent passengers.
She said the PIA charged the international standard fairs from passengers but its services were just like a third class airline.
The popularity of PIA was going down with every passing day due to the negligence of its management, she said and requested the committee to raise this issue with the administration of the PIA and bring the culprits to book and submit the report to committee in this regard.
The committee expressed displeasure that Civil Aviation Authority [CAA] was unable to take action against responsible people for making loss of Rs671 million on account of cargo despite a lapse of considerable time of the assurance given by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) that inquiry into the matter is in process. The committee also ordered the CAA to submit the report to it in next meeting.
The committee discussed the issue of charging of Rs100 and Rs300 from each international and domestic passenger respectively and deferred the matter till next meeting.
