ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has stepped up efforts to secure its border with Afghanistan as part of the counter terrorism strategy.
The move follows decisions of the meeting of apex committee of KPK chaired by the Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif in Peshawar last week.
The meeting agreed to improve border management at all crossing points, especially Torkham and enforce border crossing mechanism in letter and spirit.
Regarding extortion calls being made to people in Peshawar from Pak-Afghan border region, the participants decided to send a high-level delegation to Kabul to seek cooperation from Afghan authorities.
A sizeable number of militants fled into Afghanistan to avoid Operation Zarb-e-Azb which had undoubtedly done well in weakening and dismantling of the terrorist network, but due to the porous border main players and leaders of Taliban fled to Afghanistan and control the operations in Pakistan from the Afghan soil.
The Pakistan government has also asked the Afghan authorities to check the activities of the militants on its side of the border so as to make it impossible for the non-state actors to destabilise the two countries.
