ISLAMABAD- The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Wednesday authorized to open four investigations and three inquiries in different cases of corruption amounting to billions of rupees including two investigations in the rental power plants (RPPs) case.

The first investigation was authorized against officials and government functionaries of rental power plant (RPP) installed at Summanderi, Faisalabad. Allegedly corruption has been committed and a loss of Rs. 2.8 billion was caused to the national exchequer in the case.
The second investigation was authorized in RPP case of Walters Power International, Naudero-I, Larkana. The accused allegedly caused a loss of Rs. $28.423 million to the national kitty.
The third investigation was authorized against Shah Jehan Khetran, Ex-MD Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), Saeed Abbas Ansari, GM Finance PTDC and Abdul Rasool Zaidi, Manager Accounts PTDC. In this case, the accused persons are allegedly involved in financial mismanagement, illegal recruitments and illegal leasing out of PTDC properties.
And, the fourth inquiry was authorized against Zahoor Khattak, Chief Controller Purchase, Paksitan Railways; Saeed Akhtar, former GM Pakistan Railways; Muhammad Naeem Malik, former GM Pakistan Railways; Sohail Sana Qazi, Dy Chief Engineer Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM); Jawad Ahmad, Contractor Pakistan Steel Traders, Lahore and Zeeshan Ahmad, contractor Pakistan Steel Traders, Lahore. The accused persons committed corruption causing loss of Rs. 48.85 million to the national exchequer.
The board authorized three inquiries. The first one is against Shahid Hussain Asad, Additional Secretary Economic Affairs Division and others for misuse of authority and granting illegal favour to M/s Pak Arab Fertilizers Ltd and M/s Fatima Fertilizers Ltd. The accused persons allegedly reduced sales tax rates for these companies through issuing SROs and are accused for causing loss of Rs 1 billion to the national kitty and case has been shifted to the NAB Punjab.
The second one is against officers and officials of OGDCL, OGRA and others. The accused persons are alleged for corruption and corrupt practices in marketing, distribution and royalty of hydrocarbon products in KPK and are alleged for causing loss of Rs 375 million to the government. The Peshawar High Court in a suo moto case has directed NAB and FIA to probe this case.
The third inquiry is against officers and officials of the KPK government for illegal reinstatement of a convicted person Zahid Arif, Assistant Director Communication and Works Department. The accused person was involved in a corruption case and he had paid Rs. 17 million to NAB through plea bargain in year 2000.
In the Board meeting, the acting Chairman has also authorized three complaint verifications (CVs). First one is against Dr. Nazir Hussain, Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Jamshoro and its Registrar Muhammad Nawaz Narejo. Both the persons are accused for misuse of authority and embezzlement of government funds amounting to Rs. 9.6 million. Second is against officers and officials of Labour and Workers Welfare Board Balochistan.
 The accused are suspected of corruption and corrupt practices and causing loss of Rs. 8.00 million to the national exchequer. The last one is against officers and officials of Food Department, Quetta and others. The accused persons are suspected of corruption and corrupt practices.
