ISLAMABAD - Justice (R) Khalil ur Rehman Ramday has served a legal notice upon PTI Chairman Imran Khan for allegedly involving him and his family in the 2013 election rigging and demanded public apology from Imran.
In a legal notice sent under section 8 of the Defamation Ordinance, 2002 by the retired judge called upon Imran Khan to tender a public apology 'withdrawing and repudiating the false, the illusory, the unfounded and the baseless allegations in question'.
According to the notice, Imran, as per Section 8 of the Defamation Ordinance, 2002, has been given a 14-day time to tender the public apology. Ramday warned Imran if he does not tender apology, he has the right to sue him for damages.
"The false, slanderous, libelous and sinful accusations in question leveled by you (PTI chief) which are a manifestation of the worst kind of 'hate speech', have injured and harmed my hard-earned reputation and have lowered/tend to lower me in the estimation of others. These allegations have subjected/tend to subject me to ridicule, unjust criticism, dislike and hatred. Not just this, your malicious allegations have also harmed and injured the pride, which the members of my family including my children and my descendants, had always had in me and your said reckless accusations have caused immeasurable agony, pain and suffering to us all," the retired judge said.
While replying to the allegations, Ramday said in the legal notice that his brother Asad-ur-Rehman, MNA, is in politician since 1964 and has lost elections when he was sitting judge of Lahore High Court and Supreme Court.
Regarding Ayesha Raza Farooq, who was described by Khan as Ramday's niece, the retired judge maintained that she was widow of his nephew and a learned lady to be selected as a legislator. The former judge also explained that his son Mustafa Ramday was one of the 22 additional Advocate Generals of Punjab who too did not get any salary or related benefits arousing out of the post. Ramday said that he himself as ad hoc judge of SC did not get any salary and donated it to a trust.
