People living in the affected areas are more danger of being exposed to the viruses. As after the heavy rain the water would be pooled over roads, especially in residential areas which can cause outbreak of water-born diseases. In every summer the cases of water-born disease increase and the twin cities hospitals receiving such patients daily, but the heavy rain would contribute a lot in activating the viruses that causes water-born diseases. "This is the most suitable season for the virus of such diseases to grow, especially the rota virus becomes activate in this season, said Dr Waseem Khawaja, Director of Outdoor Patients Department (OPD) at PIMS. The areas affected by rainy water, particularly in Rawalpindi are dangerous, as there is no proper drainage system in the residential areas, he added. He opined that there are many chances that diseases like gastroetities, malaria, skin infection, typhoid, paratyphoid, polio virus, stomach worms and diarrhea could spread in the affected areas. The rain recorded by the Met office in Islamabad was 172-milli meter and in Rawalpindi it was 167 millimeter. A Met official, while talking to TheNation, said that it was an unexpected rain and according to him this was the heaviest rain recorded in pre- monsoon, so far. According to another health expert, 80 percent cases of diarrhea and food poisoning are caused by rotavirus and doctors should not suggest antibiotic for its treatment as it could further worsen patients' situation. Rather they should try to rehyderate the patient, as it is better.
