ISLAMABAD - Exercising its powers under constitution, Supreme Court of Pakistan registered 86 cases under suo moto category during last five years and disposed of 53 out of them.
Meanwhile, 33 cases were still pending with the apex court, Minister of justice and law informed Senate on Tuesday. Farooq Hamid Naek was responding to a question asked by senator Karim Ahmed Khawja who asked the later to inform the upper house about details of suo moto actions taken by supreme court of Pakistan since 2009 and the cases that were disposed off.
“Apex court took 86 suo moto actions since 2008 and disposed of 53 out of them. While 33 cases are stilling pending in the court,” Minister for law and justice informed the Senate. Naek, however, did not include number of suo moto action taken by apex court during 2013. Farooq Naek also informed Senate during question hour on Tuesday that during the last year‚ 33‚737 cases of human rights were disposed of while 16‚331 were still pending.
During question hour on Tuesday, Minister of State for Communications Mir Dost Muhammad Mazari told the upper House that to ensure connectivity to Gwadar Port‚ 3 road projects have been completed while work on four additional projects is underway.
He said that a cost of 13 billion rupees has been incurred on these projects during the last five years.
