Islamabad - The first ever inaugural alumni reception of the University of London International Programmes was held in Islamabad the other day.

According to a press release, the event was attended by the High Commissioner UK Thomas Drew, Chief Executive and Pro Vice Chancellor University of London International Programmes Dr Mary Stiasny, Simon Askey Head of Undergraduate Laws University of London International Programmes, Lisa Pierre Head of Alumni Engagement and SaadWasim, Country Head University of London International Programmes Pakistan along with renowned educationists, including Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq CEO Roots Millennium Schools, Khadija Mushtaq, Walid Mushtaq, Dr Neelam Hussain, heads of regulation authorities, partners of renowned law firms, key employers and a large number of University of London Alumni and current students. The British High Commissioner spoke highly of the University of London and stressed upon the importance of education in Pakistan. He felt that the British governments focus on education through British Council and University of London International Programmes was the way forward for growth and prosperity within Pakistan.

Dr Mary Stiasny, Pro Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive University of London International Programmes highlighted in her address the high achievements of Pakistani students in the international programmes. Pakistan being the 6th largest market for University of London International Programmes has more than 3000 students studying in the country and has produced more than 2,000 graduate’s mostly renowned lawyers and social sciences alumnus. Simon Askey, Head of Undergraduate Laws talked highly of their law students in Pakistan and appreciated the three students in Pakistan which secured the first class distinction in the whole course. A total of seven students around the world secured a first class distinction in the laws course and fortunately three belonged from Pakistan this time around. Lisa Pierre, Head of Alumni Engagement was very pleased to meet the Pakistani alumni and alumni ambassadors and was very hopeful for many more University of London events in Pakistan in the future.

Saad Wasim, Country Head University of London International Programmes appreciated how the officials in the government and education sector welcomed the Pro Vice Chancellors visit to Pakistan. He also thanked the alumni for taking out time to attend this important inaugural alumni reception of Pakistan. The senior delegation of the University of London met with the Education Minister, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Higher Education Commission Chairman, Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs to the PM, British Council Head, DG Foreign Services Academy and the senior officials of the Pakistan Bar Council and the Planning Commission of Pakistan in this important visit to Pakistan.

The alumni reception was very well attended with more than 350 alumni and current students being part of it. It was declared the biggest Alumni Reception for the University of London International Programmes in the World. The Alumni Reception followed with a fantastic performance by the Rock star Ali Azmat.
