Tight security measures at colleges: DEO

RAWALPINDI - The district government has made tight security arrangements at all colleges both for boys and girls of the city to avoid any untoward situation. Keeping in view the current deteriorating law and order situation, CCTV cameras and metal detectors have been provided while strength of security guards was increased besides construction of guardrooms, elevation of boundary walls, installation of barriers and hedge wires at all government sector collages. There is also a proposal on the cards to issue arms licence to collages for security guards. District Education Officer (DEO) (Colleges), Rawalpindi, Ulfat Mehmood Janjua said this while talking to TheNation at his office here on Thursday. He said that directives were also issued to the administration of private colleges to accelerate their security, otherwise, their institutions would be closed down till following the standing orders regarding security. At present, there were total 35 colleges in the entire district, out of it 14 girls and four boys colleges were situated in Rawalpindi city, however, a boy college in the vicinity of Dhoke Saidan was under construction while 10 kannals of land has been acquired at Rehmatabad for construction of another college for boys, he said while replying to a query. We are waiting for finances to start the project as the PC-I has already been approved, the DEO added. He said that the capacity of Govt Hashmat Ali Islamia College for boys was enhanced from 300 to 2,500 students by constructing new building covered 10 kannals piece of land. Similarly, the government has allocated Rs 10 million for construction of 10 additional rooms at Government Degree College for Boys, Satellite Town. The philosophy behind making more girls colleges at different localities of the city was to give trouble-free access of education to girls because boys can go far away from their homes easily as compared to girls, he said. The DEO, Ulfat Mehmood Janjua was of the view that almost all public sector colleges had their own computer laboratories and those colleges which lacked thr facility would be provided the facility soon.
