ISLAMABAD - In a surprising move, the auditor general of Pakistan (AGP) on Wednesday challenged the legality of chairmanship of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) by a politician of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).AGP Akhtar Buland Rana on Wednesday submitted a policy statement before the PAC, the apex parliamentary forum for the accountability of the government transactions, saying that Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah cannot head the forum being a politician and minister of former regime of Pakistan Peoples Party. He said, "A judge should not be a judge for his own cause." According to the policy statement, since the PAC is about to take up audit objections raised on the transactions of last five years of the PPP government; therefore, it is improper if the forum would be headed by a PPP politician. He suggested that the PAC should be headed by a parliamentarian who does not belong to either ruling party or former government; rather, he/she should be from a neutral side. This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
