ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Defence Khwaja Muhammad Asif on Wednesday brushed aside the impression that former President Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf had been given a safe passage under a deal and said that the former dictator will have to face courts and prove his innocence.
Speaking to journalists at his chamber in National Assembly, the minister said the government will never extend any administrative assistance to the under-trial Musharraf and will not facilitate him to leave the country under any deal.
“The impression that the government will send Musharraf abroad under a covert agreement is baseless. The federal government is rigorously pursuing treason case against the dictator in courts,” the minister clarified.
He said that Musharraf’s fate is in the hands of courts and whatever decision is made by the judiciary the government will implement the verdict and respect the judgement. “Musharraf is a citizen of the country and he will be treated as other people in the country are treated,” he added.
The minister stressed that the federal government is toiling hard to prove Musharraf guilty of treason in courts; however, the courts will finally decide the matter.
 “In any case we will abide by the decision of courts and will implement the judgement in true letter and spirit,” the minister said.
