ISLAMABAD - The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) held on Thursday at the NAB Headquarters, presided by Chairman NAB Qamar Zaman Chaudhry approved three references in the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) scam and one reference in Pakistan Railways case. According to details, two references regarding the sale of PSM products at cheaper rates will be filed against accused Moen Aftab Sheikh, former Chairman PSM, Sameen Asghar, former Director Commercial and others. The accused were alleged to have given illegal benefits to private firms to the tune of Rs. 506.67 million, and Rs. 311.378 million respectively causing a loss to the PSM and dented the national exchequer.In the third reference, accused Sameen Asghar and others are alleged to have extended free credit scheme to private firms and causing loss of Rs. 13.66 million to the PSM and national exchequer.In another reference in the Pakistan Railways (PR) case against accused Saeed Akhtar, former General Manager (GM) Operations Pakistan Railways and Ahsan Mahmood former Director Planning are accused of causing loss of $3.78 million to the Pakistan Railways and state treasury through acts of corruption and corrupt practices and misuse of authority. The Board also authorized investigation into KPK Police’s Weapon Purchase case where accused including Ex-IG Police KPK, Members of the Purchase Committee and officers and officials of the Police department and others accused of embezzlement in procurement of equipments, weapons and vehicles.This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
