ICT finalises Monsoon flood protection plan

ISLAMABAD (APP)- ICT Administration has finalized monsoon flood protection arrangements in the Federal Capital and set up a control room in the office of the Deputy Commissioner to monitor the situation round the clock. A meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner ICT Amer Ali Ahmed held here on Monday finalized the arrangements. The meeting was also attended by the representatives of all concerned departments including officials of Simly Dam, Rawal Dam, IESCO, Civil Defence, Rescue 15, Health Department ICT and officials of ICT Administration and Met office. The Deputy Commissioner directed the officials of concerned departments to ensure effective co-ordination during the monsoon rain season and water level in the dams should be monitored on daily basis with weather forecast and daily report be submitted to the office of Deputy Commissioner ICT. It was decided in the meeting that water from the dams will be discharged gradually before exceeding the storage capacity and prior to the discharge of water, the people living in the low lying areas will be shifted to the safer places. The Civil Defence Department and other concerned officials were directed to ensure the shifting of peoples and livestock living in low-lying areas well in time to safer places. Amer Ali Ahmed has also constituted special teams headed by the Magistrates for setting up flood relief centres in the city for relief and rescue of the peoples living in low lying areas. Assistant Commissioners and Magistrates have been asked to carry out visits of their respective areas for ensuring necessary arrangements during the monsoon rains. Meanwhile District Health Department ICT has also constituted special teams for carrying out vaccination of the peoples in order to protect them against the seasonal diseases during monsoon season.
