ISLAMABAD - After the success of 1st “National Conference on Gender and Media” last year, White Ribbon Campaign Pakistan (WRCP) will now hold the 2nd National Conference on Gender and Media on March 08 (tomorrow) in Islamabad to commemorate the International Women’s Day.
WRCP Media Awards are being launched for the first time in Pakistan. The awards highlight, acknowledge and celebrate the commendable efforts by various Pakistani media for providing gender-balanced perspectives, portrayals and analyses. The purpose of the media awards is to assess the implementation of WRCP Code of Ethics in media of gender sensitive reporting.
Awards will be given in the categories of Print, Broadcast, Web and Photo Journalism. WRCP has received about 100 entries by journalists competing for these awards.
WRCP was initiated in July 2006 by Women’s Empowerment Group (WEG) and Vision 2015 with the objective of involving men to reduce violation of women’s rights. ‘Justice can be provided by those who do injustice because they have the power to do both,’ is the basis of the WRCP. It, therefore, works with men as its stakeholders and believes that men, even in instances where they are not part of the problem, can bring forth the solution to stop violence against women.
