JUI-F vows to save democracy

ISLAMABAD - Jamiat-I-Ulema-I-Islam(Fazl) Central Working Committee and Parliamentary Party meeting held here on Tuesday under the chair of Moulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss the overall political situation in the country with specific reference to party role as junior coalition partner in the federal government.
Sources aware of the deliberations of the meeting informed The Nation that the party leadership was of a unanimous view that no compromise on the principled stand of the party on the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance as well as the objectionable clauses of the National Internal Security Policy relating to the control over seminaries would be made.
Similarly, the meeting also expressed concern over the way Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) ignored the party while taking policy decisions and asked the party chief to take up this matter with Prime Minister Nawaz.
The meeting also decided not to budge on its principled stand and could even forgo ministerial slots on which the party’s ministers had already tendered their resignations.
The party leadership, however, said that the doors for dialogue would remain open.
The party reiterated its commitment to democracy and made it loud and clear that in case of any threat to the incumbent political dispensation in the country the party would extend complete support to the federal government.
The sources in the party said that the party chief would likely to announce the details of the Central Working Committee and Parliamentary Committee meeting in a press briefing today.
