ISLAMABAD - Military Joint Chief of Staff to President of French Republic, Admiral Edouard Guillad Monday called on Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Tariq Majid and discussed matters of mutual interest with him. Both the leaders exchanged views on regional security environment and explored the avenues of expansion of the ongoing military-to-military cooperation between the two countries. Chairman JCSC expressed that Pakistan and France enjoy cordial multifaceted relations, characterized by shared perception on major global and regional issues. Pakistan appreciates French government for its just and courageous point of view on different global issues. He also appreciated the positive role played by the French government in approval of US $ 200 million developmental package by European Union for the economic uplift of the tribal areas of Pakistan and the stance by NATO that it respects sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan. While discussing regional security issues, General Tariq re-emphasised the need to develop a comprehensive, collaborative approach by the comity of nations to address the problem of violent extremism and militancy keeping in view local dynamics and challenges. He highlighted that over reliance on kinetic means is not a solution to the problem. The comprehensive strategy worked out by Pakistan with focus on political surge and developmental aspects along with backup support of judicious force application is the answer. "We welcome the support of European Union and understanding displayed by France of our ground realities", he added. Reviewing the ongoing military-to-military cooperation, both sides expressed satisfaction. CJCSC lauded the support extended by France in developing indigenous submarine building capability in Pakistan.
