Court hears cleric murder case against Musharraf today

Islamabad - A local trial court will today (Monday) resume the hearing of Ghazi murder case against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.
The court is conducting the hearing of the double murder case of Ghazi Abdul Rashid and his mother Sahiba Khatoon on the complaint of Haroon Rashid, the son of Ghazi Abdul Rashid.
On the last hearing, the court of District and Sessions Judge Kamran Basharat Mufti had summoned copy of Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) order that nullified former President Pervez Musharraf’s arrest warrant in this matter.
During the hearing, Musharraf’s counsel Malik Tahir had informed the court the IHC had accepted criminal surveillance plea of his client and they were waiting for written order from the court.
However, the petitioner’s counsel Tariq Asad told that the IHC has directed the trail court to pass verdict in light of Musharraf’s medical report.
After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court had summoned copy of IHC’s order and deferred the hearing till September 7 (today) for further proceedings.
Earlier, the trial court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants of former President General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf in the double murder case.
District and Sessions Judge Kamran Basharat Mufti had issued these arrest warrants after turning down Musharraf’s plea seeking permanent exemption from appearing before the court in this matter.
In this particular matter, the Islamabad police had registered a case against Musharraf for his alleged role in the murder of Rashid and his mother during the Lal Masjid military operation.
The federal police filed the case in 2013 after Haroon Rashid submitted an application with the Aabpara police station for registration an FIR against the former president. In the application, Haroon had referred to about 20 pages of the Lal Masjid Commission report, which held the former president responsible for the operation.
