RAWALPINDI: A leader of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) workers’ union was arrested and released in Rawalpindi.
According to our correspondent, Shoaib Yousafzai was picked up by men in plain clothes from a camp of protesting employees outside Rawalpindi’s Benazir International Airport.
However, Yousafzai was released minutes later, as workers protested his detention, chanting slogans against government and its plan to privatize PIA.
The protestors marched on airport road and blocked traffic before they were dispersed by police.
Authorities imposed Section 144 for 48 hours within the jurisdiction of the airport on Sunday night, banning gathering of protestors.
