RAWALPINDI (Online) - City Traffic Police has devised special traffic plan for 7 small and a central Muharram Procession on the eve of Ashura to be observed today (Thursday) in Rawalpindi, said Chief Traffic Officer SSP Raja Rifat Mukhtar. In a handout issued here on Wednesday, CTO said that 7 procession would be taken out in Rawalpindi on the eve of Ashura which later to be merged into a central procession and special traffic arrangements have been devised in this respect. Under the traffic measures, he said vacations of traffic wardens have been cancelled and they would remain in duty till end of Ashura Procession. "There will be a complete ban on parking at procession route while the participants and mourners would also park their vehicles at point allocated for them," he said. He described described that every type of traffic would be banned from Committee Chowk to Iqbal Road while diversion would be installed at DAV College Road from where traffic would not be allowed to enter the College Road. On arrival of mourning procession at New Mohallah Chowk, he said that traffic would not be allowed to enter DAV College Chowk from Fowara Chowk and public transport like Suzuki and wagon would be returned back from DAV College Chowk while other traffic willing to go Saddar and Pirwadhai would have a way of Gawalmandi via Dhok Kumar and Bhosa Godown. "Diversion would also be installed near hotel at City Saddar Road from where transportation would not be allowed to enter Fawara Chowk and to be diverted to Saddar and Pirwadhai via Mohan Pura, Nawalti Cinema and Ganjmandi," he said. He said that diversion would also be installed at U-turn near City Police Station from where traffic coming to Nawalti Cinema would be diverted to Ganjmandi so that they could reach Pirwadhai and Sardar via Dhok Heso. "Shah Allah Dita Road would also have diversion from where traffic would be diverted to Dhok Dalal, TB Hospital, Pirwadhai and Asghar Mall Scheme," CTO added. He went on to say that diversion would also be installed at Roshan Bakery from where traffic leading to Bank Chowk and Link Road would be returned back while all traffic would go to Liaquat Bagh via Syed Pur Road, Circular Road and Murree Road. He said that diversion would also be installed at Helmatan Chowk from where traffic would not be allowed to enter Dingi Khoi and Bansa Wala Chowk and traffic would be diverted to Ganjmandi. "Bansa Wala Chowk, he said, would also have diversion from where traffic would not be allowed to enter Dingi Khoi and Jamia Masjid Road and would be diverted to Pirwadhai," he said. Control room has been set up in Traffic headquarters, he said special traffic staff for convenience of people would remain on duty at help line no 915.
