RAWALPINDI – Dismayed over the federal government’s refusal to the recommendations of Pay and Pension Committee of increasing the salaries of employees, Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) Rawalpindi Division President Muhammad Ilyas Qureshi demanded of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakharuddin G Ibrahim to bar the government from utilising the funds on development schemes before upcoming elections.
“This unprecedented and unfair move on the part of the government has swelled a wave of panic among thousands of government employees including teachers.
We condemn the decision of the government vehemently,” said Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association President while talking to media here on Monday.
He said that the government should implement the proposals tabled by PPC immediately. He said that the government wanted to utilise the funds on development projects before elections.
The federal government refused to introduce Unified Pay Scale w.e.f. 1-1-2013, he said, adding that the government has no right to spend funds allocated for government servants on the development schemes before general elections.
The president of Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association said that the PPC revised the pay scales after many years but the government rejected it which was injustice.
“Therefore, Chief Election Commissioner is requested to take notice of the issue and give the employees their right” Prof Ilyas Qureshi said.
He warned that if the demands were not accepted, the teachers, their families and relatives would not cast votes in the upcoming elections.
