PM to summon meeting for restructuring IRSA

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani taking notice of resignations by members of Indus River System Authority (IRSA) and opening of the Chashma Jhelum Link Canal despite the opposition of Sindh and Balochistan has decided to convene meeting of all four provinces and Ministry for Water and Power for restructuring of IRSA. According to media reports, PM Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has taken notice of resignations by members of Indus River System Authority (IRSA) and has decided to convene meeting during the current week of all four provinces and Ministry for Water and Power for restructuring of IRSA. During the meeting issues related to formula for water distribution amongst the provinces would be settled. Sindh developed stance that Shafqat Masood acted Chairman belonging to Punjab has directed to open Jehlum link canal and provide 10,000-cusec water, despite Sindh's and Balochistan's objections. Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah during telephonic conversation with Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf protested against the decision. In another side, during the meeting presided by Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah, concerns have been expressed over open of Jehlum link canal while, CM Sindh said that it would have devastating impact on the country's economy and agriculture.
