ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani approved the special pay package for Capital Territory Police to give it a real model police look. The package would be made effective from April 1, 2008. According to the details of the package the Capital Territory Police would be given extra allowance equal to one month's basic pay, house rent ceiling to be paid in cash, 20 days fixed Daily Allowance (DA) per month (to officials on operation duties only) and all the existing allowances. The Committee headed by the Additional Secretary (II), Ministry of Interior with Joint Secretary (ICT), Inspector General of Police, Islamabad and Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, as its members had examined the pay package of ICT Police and made these recommendations. The Committee had observed that Islamabad being the Capital City, police remained occupied round-the-clock at times, an official has to perform 14 to 16 hours duties at a stretch, which otherwise under the normal circumstances should not be more than 8 hours. Besides, they are deployed on a highly sensitive duty of providing security to VVIPs and foreign diplomats. They lack facilities like family accommodation, transport, etc. which is adversely affecting not only their normal duties but their efficiency and moral as well.
