Capital police claim cut in crime rate



ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad police claimed on Monday that a decline was witnessed in the cases of dacoities, burglaries, thefts, vehicles lifting and snatchings in the federal capital during the first quarter of current year.
“Comparison of the data of crime rate in the months from January to April this year revealed that dacoities, auto-theft cases and burglary cases in the city declined during these months as compared to the corresponding period of the last year,” spokesperson of Islamabad capital territory police said on Monday.
According to a press note issued from the office of Inspector General of Islamabad police on Monday, around 35 per cent declined was witnessed in auto-theft incidents while 57 stolen and five snatched vehicles including 19 Corolla cars, 17 Suzuki Mehran cars, 8 FX, 11 Honda cars, four pick ups, one Khyber car, one jeep and one Hiace were recovered by Islamabad in this year.
Similarly, the recovery of arms and narcotics is also higher during these months due to successful vigilance and security plan, it said.
A total of 163 kilogram hashish, nine kilogram heroin, 6 kilogram opium and over 20097 wine bottles were also recovered from several nabbed drug pushers.
During the same period, hundreds of accused were arrested for their alleged involvement in possessing illegal weapons and a total of 16 Kalashnikovs, 17 guns, 343 pistols, 2970 rounds were recovered from them.
From January to April, a total of 53 gamblers, 263 court absconders and 135 proclaimed offenders were also arrested while 76 tempered vehicles were also recovered by Islamabad police.
A comprehensive security and vigilance plan was also chalked out for the city. Various rings of security were also set up with provision of more logistic support for policemen performing duties at police stations or Rescue 15 in shape of various teams. Squads of falcon vehicles from `Rescue 15’ had been also directed for strict patrolling and keep in touch with the heads of police stations for ensuring security.
Elite vehicles, Bravo vehicles were provided to police stations while security measures were enhanced at haling points, police pickets with special directions for strict patrolling to falcon and eagle squads as well as police commandoes teams.
