ISLAMABAD  - Dr Kazim Niaz, Member Environment CDA, visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) for sharing development plans to further beautify the capital.
Dr Kazim Niaz said that all available resources would be used to develop Islamabad as a clean, green and environment friendly city. He also sought ICCI’s support in “Go Green” campaign and said that students from different schools would also be encouraged which aims to inculcate love and care for trees among the young generation. He also informed the meeting about developing another recreational spot at Trail-5 Margalla hills.
He said that CDA and ICCI would make a committee on permanent basis to look after the environment of Islamabad and CDA would provide technical assistance to bring uniformity in horticulture in the streets of Islamabad. He also appreciated the involvement of ladies to improve the horticulture in the Federal Capital.
Speaking on the occasion, President ICCI Zafar Bakhtawari said Islamabad has a huge potential for producing valuable plants and unique varieties of flowers with a view to set an example for replicating these experiences in other parts of the country.
He aid that there is greater need to involve school children in tree plantation campaign because tree plantation is not a onetime activity, rather it is a long term healthy and environment friendly activity as the children feel ownership with the trees they plant and see them growing.  
Bakhtawari proposed to develop F-8 sector as a model sector and vowed that ICCI would continue its uninterrupted support and cooperation to the CDA to further beautify the capital. The ICCI president said that the total estimated generation of solid waste in Islamabad is 600-700 tons per day and still there is no permanent site to dump the city’s garbage to comply with slogan of ‘Clean and Green Islamabad.’ He proposed to establish proper treatment plants for converting these wastes into bio-fuel which would ultimately overcome the prevailing energy crisis of the country.
Munawar Mughal, former president ICCI, emphasised on developing the small sectors of Islamabad at par with other posh sectors of Federal capital. He urged Member Environment to make all-out efforts to increase forest cover and preserve the “green character” of the capital city. He stated that standards of living can be made better only by keeping the environment clean and green. Representative from Islamabad Lions Club and Dr Shaikh Suleman, DG Environment were also present on the occasion.
