OIC reaffirms support to Kashmiris just struggle

ISLAMABAD  - The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Iyad Ameen Madani, has reaffirmed the OIC's full support and solidarity to the just liberation struggle of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Iyad Ameen Madani on the occasion of inauguration of a photo exhibition highlighting the human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir at the OIC premises in Jeddah said that continuation of the Kashmir conflict was not in the interest of India or Pakistan or the people of Kashmir, reported KMS.
He said that the OIC would use all available means to promote the cause of the Kashmiri people. He maintained that the OIC had always called for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute through a negotiated process between Pakistan and India.
Iyad Ameen Madani while talking to the representatives of the OIC member countries said that this photo exhibition was a platform for the OIC to express its full and unwavering solidarity with the Kashmiris.
"I hope that through the help of the OIC members states and institutions we will be able to enhance assistance to the Kashmiri people," he stated.
The OIC Secretary General said that the OIC had consistently shown its firm support to the Kashmiris in their legitimate struggle for their fundamental human rights including their inalienable right to self-determination.
The present occasion also seeks to keep alive the efforts of those Kashmiris who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their homeland, he added.
Ambassador Abdullah Abdur Rahman Alim, the OIC's special envoy to Kashmir who recently visited Pakistan said that the OIC supported direct and frank negotiations between Pakistan and India.
He further said the OIC's Council of Foreign Ministers requested the OIC Independent Permanent Human Right Commission to set up a mechanism for monitoring the human rights situation in Occupied Kashmir.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi, the Convener of the forum led by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, on the occasion said that Kashmir was not a bilateral issue between Pakistan and India but the issue of the people of Kashmir and their lives and security.
Pakistan's Consul General, Aftab Khokhar, highlighted the key objectives of the event and condemned the human rights violations by Indian troops in Occupied Kashmir.
