ISLAMABAD - The Ministry of Water and Power on Sunday said that power distribution companies have restored electricity supply to most parts of the country after they were plunged into darkness due to the devastating rains and floods started last week.
IESCO has restored power supply completely while LESCO and other distribution companies are close to reinstate the supply, said spokesperson of the ministry while talking to The Nation.
He said that due to the recent rains the electricity system was disturbed in many parts of the country, but LESCO suffered the most.
More than 400 feeders tripped, while more than 100 transformers were dead due to the rains and floods, told the LESCO spokesperson to this scribe. He said by Friday up to 250 feeders were restored while work on others was in progress and soon all the feeders would be fully functional again.
He said that due to the rains, trees fell on the transmission lines, which resulted in disruption of power supply to many customers. He said that meters of the consumers got out of order due to short circuits.
“We are fast clearing individual complaints as trees fell on lines causing blackouts in different parts of the jurisdiction, and short circuits,” he said.
He also said that number of these individual complaints was very high, however, most of them were rectified by Sunday evening.
He said that his company managed to replace all the transformers from the inventory and within no time the power supply was restored.
He further said that LESCO cut off the power supply to the areas where water was standing, as a precautionary measure aimed to avert any accident.
“There has been some loadshedding in outer areas of Lahore due to system restrains, otherwise there is no loadshedding in LESCO,” he maintained.
Due to the rains and floods many areas of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad also plunged into darkness.
These areas included Peshawar More, Westridge, Afshan Colony, Gulzar Colony, Al-Noor Colony, Fazal Town, Dadyal, Chandni Chowk, Dhamial, Gulshan-e-Jinnah and Chaklala were reportedly without power supply on Thursday and Friday, whereas in Islamabad, many sectors of G and F remained dark.
Due to the last week’s rains and winds trees fell on the transmission lines causing trip of 28 feeders, IESCO Chief Engineer Fayyaz Hussain Siddiqui told The Nation.
He said by Sunday his company recovered the power supply to its all consumers and all the operations in his company’s jurisdiction were running smooth and normal.
