Finance Ministry has disclosed that Pakistan being bounded by IMF conditions cannot take out any more loans from banks for releasing funds for development schemes. The disclosure was made before the Senate Standing Committee for Communication on Saturday. The Committee meeting presided by Committee Chairman Senator Wali Badini met here on Saturday at Parliament House. The meeting was attended by Senator Zahid Khan, Salahuddin Dogar, Ismail Beladi and other senior officials of concerned departments. Briefing the meeting, the Finance Ministry officials told that due to severe economic crunch the development funds have been slashed by 50 percent but despite this the funds for various projects have been released to NHA. The remaining amount would also be released before June but we cannot take out any more loans from banks as that it would not augur well with IMF. The officials further told that the amount we receive from FBR we release to provinces and federal institutions. He further told that Rs 1 billion were released to Balochistan, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa on April 8. Further Rs 250 million will be released to Balochistan on Monday. According to Online Members of the committee directed acting chairman of National Highway Authority Junaid Ahmed to release funds for development projects in their provinces, on this Junaid Ahmed said that his department is battling severe financial crunch and dont even have money to take poison. He said that he has no say in the funds that are released by the Finance ministry. He said that he is a govt servant and only does what he is told by the govt. Earlier IG Motorway Police told the committee that his department was also not given full funds due to which he is unable to take full control of several federal highways. On this the Finance Ministry recommended to the Standing Committee to release funds to Motorway police. Committee also directed for lifting of ban on leasing of roads and land under the control of NHA. The committee also directed to blacklist a company named Husnain. The committee also directed for completion of several projects on the basis of BOT on this the Planning Commission officials told that they have not received favourable response in this regard Chairman Committee Wali BAdini said that priority should be given to release of development funds for Balochistan and vacancies quota.
