ISLAMABAD - Central leaders of Jammat-e-Islami Friday held in-depth meeting with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan as part of its efforts to defuse tension between PTI Imran Khan and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The JI led by Liaqat Baloch met Nisar at the Punjab House Islamabad and discussed the overall political situation prevailing in the country.
The JI leaders informed Nisar of PTI’s demand of conducting recounting in 10 constituencies whereas Nisar informed them of suggestions by the governments.
Later, Liaqat Baloch told media that they have received the proposals from the government, which would be presented before Khursheed Shah and Mehmood Khan Achakzai whereas they would also consult their party chief Sirajul Haq.
Baloch was of the view that the political issues might get to a dead end. Musharraf should not be allowed to escape taking advantage of the situation. He further said that they did not discuss anything related to article 245 with the government.
He clarified that they have no issue with the long march, as peaceful protests are the major strength of the opposition. “We will try to inform Imran Khan of the government’s proposals to avert any collision and bloodshed during the PTI’s long march,” Baloch said.
