islamabad - The right to access to healthcare services is guaranteed under the constitution and this right to health is indispensable to realise the rights to life and dignity for all people.
Leila Khan, the member National Assembly, said this here on Monday while inaugurating a three-day workshop on capacity building on social health insurance in Pakistan. The strengthening of public health system is through investment and support and there is a need to ensure access to clean water, nutrition, decent shelter and education for every citizen. The high cost of healthcare puts burdens on everyone, the MNA said.
The parliamentarian further said that the government was fully committed and coordinating to its fullest to formulate an equity-based uniform healthcare system and was specially focusing on the poorest of the poor. Initially the government has decided to provide health insurance cover to these underprivileged families of 22 districts of the country, besides AJK, FATA and GB, that would provide 100% free tertiary healthcare facilities in the first phase of the Prime Minter’s National Health Insurance Programme.
The MNA said that launching of this programme would materialise another vision of cash-free medical coverage for the downtrodden sections of the society in order to make Pakistan a truly social welfare state. She said that the prime minister accorded top priority to the welfare of underprivileged segments of society and the government was making strenuous efforts in that regard.
