Elahi lashes out at Punjab govt over poor law, order

I Rashid vows to move court against Rawalpindi election results

rawalpindi - Former Deputy Prime Minister and senior leader of PML-Q, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi yesterday lashed out at Punjab government saying it badly failed in maintaining law and order during local government elections in Rawalpindi district that caused bloodshed and loss of human lives in various areas.
The statement of Chief Of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif regarding non-implementation on National Action Plan (NAP) by the government is true as the good governance of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) can be seen nowhere, he added.
“Shoaib Iqbal Raja was killed by the brother of a PML-N leader four days ago but police have not arrested the killers so far which reveals the lose grip of Punjab government over the province and police,” he further said while talking to media persons at the residence of Muhammad Basharat Raja, former law minister, on the occasion of Rasm-e-Qul of his nephew Shoaib Iqbal here at Dhamial yesterday.
Besides MPA Moonis Elahi, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was flanked by Awami Muslim League (AML) President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Muhammad Basharat Raja, Raja Nasir, Hamid Nawaz Raja and other leaders of PML-Q.
Addressing the media men, the former deputy PM said though the government had conducted LG elections in the province in three phases yet it failed in maintaining the law and order. He said the killers and criminals were on loose on the occasion of the LG polls. He said that during the last eight years, the law and order has deteriorated in Punjab.
He said that he had no hope that Punjab government would be able to do justice with the family of Shoaib.
He said the chief minister had told media that he had taken notice of the murder but practically he would do nothing.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed speaking on the occasion said the PML-N is the mother of all evils as this was the party that had introduced violence in elections. He said the PML-N government has no control on law and order in Punjab. He alleged that PML-N rigged the local government elections in Rawalpindi and he would go to the court against the election results.
Muhammad Basharat Raja said that Asad Mehmood Numberdar, a local PML-N leader, and his younger brother Ikhlaq Mehmood had planned to kill Shoaib. “Despite the fact that Hayyal polling station was declared as most sensitive polling station, police failed to ensure proper security there,” he said. He alleged that PML-N candidate had brought armed goons from other areas of the city at the polling station to spoil peaceful environment there. He said the police failed to ensure ban on exhibition of weapons in public during LG polls in the district.
Earlier, Ch Pervaiz Elahi condoled the death of Shoaib with his uncle Raja Muhammad Basharat and other members of the bereaved family.
