ISLAMABAD: PNCA’s music society held its first monthly program on legendary classical musical gharana (house of musical heritage) Sham Chaurasi.

 Reknown  Music composer and teacher Syed  Arif Jaffery introduced the audience with the historical and social background of the emergence of Sham Chaursai Gharana.

The Gharana is known for the singing of vocal duets,immortalized by the brothers Nazakat and Salamat Ali Khan.The Gharana particularly Ustad Nazakat and Salamat are considered the first and earlier exponents of vocal singing in classical music in Pakistan.

 Rare audio and video recording of the gharana were also presented.

 The coming program will be on the Patiala Gharana of musical heritage.
