ISLAMABAD - Federal Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan with specific reference to its expected fallout in settled areas and preparations of law enforcement agencies to tackle it.
It is the first interaction between the two after mending of fences as Ch Nisar Ali Khan, after developing some serious differences with the party chief, kept himself aloof to all political and his ministerial responsibilities for well over a fortnight.
Sources in the party informed that Nawaz directed the minister to focus on containing the ongoing military operation’s backlash in urban centres of the country, for which Ch Nisar has already prepared a roadmap and directed for enhanced interaction between the intelligence and law enforcement agencies, so that a strict vigil on the militants’ movement could be ensured.
Sources said the matter of internally displaced persons’ handling also came under discussion with the minister coming up with a number of suggestions to spruce up the relief activities for the maximum facilitation of the IDPs.
A source in the PM House said that Nawaz was determined to wipe out militancy and clear the restive tribal areas from the terrorists, so that all the IDPs could go back to their native areas for which the government is preparing a comprehensive rehabilitation plan.
Sources in the party said that overall political situation in the country in the backdrop of the PTI’s proposed public 'march' on August 14 also came under discussion.
Expected reshuffle in the Federal Cabinet and induction of some new faces in it also discussed in the meeting.
