ISLAMABAD - The teachers of Islamabad colleges started their protest campaign against non-payment of hiring facility funds for the last two years to rent out houses.
On the call of Academic Staff Association of Islamabad College for Boys (ICB) G-6/3, the teachers of other three colleges also gathered at ICB G-6/3 and protested within the college premises. They wore black armband that they will continue to wear throughout the week and from next week they may come on the roads and boycott the classes if the issue is not addressed.
The teachers complained that for the last two years over 700 employees of model colleges have not been getting the amount to pay rents to the owners, which they cannot pay from their own meager salaries and now owners are reluctant to rent out their houses to any teacher.
They informed that a new procedure has been adopted to pay the rents to the owners and now the respective institutions of the teachers are responsible to send the bills of the teachers to AGPR for the release of cheques to the owners. But the colleges neither have any record nor they were informed anything by the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) regarding the new system. So due to administrative mess and confusion in the system, the amount for the current fiscal year could also not be released.
They complained that officials concerned of the State Management Wing of FDE misbehave with them when they approach them to know about the release of funds. They also alleged that Directorate had allocated funds but the officials divert the funds to other institutions or use them for other purposes or for the personal use instead of releasing them to the model college teachers.
The President ASA of ICB G-6/3 Prof Saeedul Allah Khan said the teachers would continue the protest throughout the week by wearing black armbands and if the FDE and the Ministry of Capital Administration and Development does not take initiative to resolve the issue they will chalk out their future line of action to protest in front of press club and to boycott the classes.
